EXAMINATION REFORMS

The Office of the Controller of Examinations use fully automated Cloud Flair ERMS software for effectively conducting the Examination and Publishing the result.

The examnr.io software has been purchased this year and put into use for conducting Online Quiz and Assignments for the courses successfully.

Measurement of the PO and CO Attainment are done automatically using the cloud ERMS software. The Attainment Report  will be issued to each student on course completion along with Consolidated Mark Statement.

(A)  RESTRUCTURING OF QUESTION PAPERS :

The question papers of Term tests, Model and the End Semester examination are prepared according to Revised Bloom’s taxonomy. Question paper Pattern has been revised based on OBE from November 2019 and the Term Test Question Papers, Model Question Papers, End Semester Question Papers are set mentioning CO and K Levels. Blue Print having Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating and Creating (Higher Objective) as the components giving appropriate weightage. For K2 level maximum limit is set as 60% for both  2017 Syllabus & 2020 Syllabus.

Net Preparatory Course Examinations is conducted from November 2017 for all PG Programmes.  

The CIA and End Semester Combination ratio is changed in 2020 Syllabus (40 : 60 ratio). Due to COVID-19 Pandemic  for Environmental Studies Course, Net Preparatory Course the Online Examinations Question Papers were prepared in Google Forms in the November 2020 End Semester Examinations.

POSITIVE IMPACT :

Students are trained to apply existing knowledge in new areas. This develops critical thinking, problem solving and cross-discipline skills that adhere with students throughout life. It helps the students to face SET/NET/TANCET/ GMAT/Competitive examinations with confidence.

(B) TECHNICAL SCRUTINY OF MODEL QUESTION PAPERS BY EXAMINATION COMMITTEE :
Model Question Papers, Question Pattern are collected & scrutinized by the Examination Committee  members.

POSITIVE IMPACT :

Error Free Model Question Papers are sent to the External Examiners for their reference to enable them to set Effective End Semester Question Papers.

(C) TECHNICAL SCRUTINY OF END SEMESTER EXAMINATION QUESTION PAPERS BY EXTERNAL EXPERTS :

After receiving End Semester Question Papers from the Question Paper Setters, the Question Papers are scrutinized by the External Subject Experts in April 2019.

POSITIVE IMPACT :

Effective, Defect Free perfect End Semester Question Papers are issued to the students to meet the standard quality.

(D) ACADEMIC AUDIT :

On the day of End Semester Examinations, academic audit of each Question Paper is done & report is given by the respective Course Teachers.  Action Taken Report is prepared by Academic Audit Committee, Controller of Examinations and Chief Controller, Examinations from November 2011.

The layout for the Question Paper Analysis form has been updated to include the CO, K Level Component from November 2019.

(E) QUESTION BANK MAINTENANCE:

Exhaustive question bank is prepared and maintained by the course teachers for all the courses in the departments. A copy of it is also submitted to the CDDC for verification and finally submitted to Controller of examinations.
Based on the OBE guidelines, from November 2019 Question  Banks for all Courses cover all the CO’s with corresponding K levels.

POSITIVE IMPACT :

The copy of Question Bank maintained in the departments is used to coach the students. It is referred and utilized by all the students. The availability of Question Bank with the Controller of Examinations helps to check the validity of the questions and to test the different attainments of the students.

(F) PROJECTS :

Project is a mandatory component for some UG programmes and compulsory for all PG programmes.

POSITIVE IMPACT:

Project based learning enables the students to explore and employ emerging technologies through hands-on projects done individually or with teams. These teacher-guided projects involve the students in self-directed learning. Students learn to work with others in team projects. They acquire deeper understanding of their subject through group collaboration. It helps in career planning and promotes life-long learning.


(G) ONLINE ASSIGNMENTS, QUIZZES AND EXAMINATIONS :

Online assignments are given to the students and each student is assigned a separate topic by the course teacher. The assignments can be submitted through Google class room, SFRLMS, Whatsapp and mail and it is assessed easily by the staff.
Online quizzes are conducted by faculty using Google forms, SFRLMS to award the marks instantly. Online examinations are conducted for extra-credit courses like Mathematics for Competitive Examinations, Career guidance, EVS, NET Preparatory Exams  and Aptitude for Banking Career and students are awarded marks instantly.

Due to COVID-19 Pandaemic Third Term Test for all programmes, End Semester Examination, April 2020, Repeat Examinations, July 2020, Arrear Examinations, April 2020 were all conducted,  evaluated and Results published online successfully.


POSITIVE IMPACT:

The Online assessment system reduces the use of paper and man power. Students are given a chance to practice for online competitive examinations.


(H) SUBJECT VIVA-VOCE :

All UG programmes and M.Phil programme have Subject viva-voce in the final year. It aims at assessing the student’s understanding on the subjects she has studied during her course of study.

POSITIVE IMPACT:

It provides a face to face interaction and tests the interactive skills which cannot be assessed by any other method of evaluation. Students are challenged by in-depth questioning and are able to develop higher intellectual skills. It also helps the students to confidently face the interviews for placement.

(I) MODERATION :

While declaring the results, a moderation of one mark is provided to UG and PG students. If the student falls short of one mark for a passing minimum, the computer adds up one mark.

POSITIVE IMPACT:

The moderation of one mark helps the students to get a pass and in some cases to acquire a degree.

(J) PRE SUBMISSION VIVA FOR RESEARCH SCHOLARS:

Pre Submission Viva-voce is conducted by the research departments before submission of the thesis of a research scholar.

POSITIVE IMPACT :

Pre Submission Viva-voce with external members enables the scholar to know and share the views of the experts. Necessary changes are incorporated as per the suggestions pointed out by the experts.

(K) CHANGE OF LAYOUT OF END SEMESTER ANSWER SCRIPTS :

The Main Book Answer Scripts for End Semester Examinations Layout has been updated with Serial Numbers From April 2019.

(L) INTRODUCTION  OF FRONT PAGE FOR TERM TEST ANSWER SCRIPTS :

The Front Page for Term Test Answer Scripts has been introduced from June 2019.

(M) CHANGE OF LAYOUT OF GPA & CGPA STATEMENT OF MARKS & GRADES :

The layout of GPA and CGPA Statement of Marks has been  changed for all PG Programmes, Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma Programmes from November 2016.

(N) ISSUE OF TRANSCRIPTS :

To enable the out gone candidates to continue their higher education in foreign countries Trascripts are issued from Februrary 2017.

(O) NAD REGISTRATION :

To enable anywhere anytime proof & Authenticity of Certificates of all Candidates of our college we have registered all our students in NAD and submitting the Statement of Mark as PDF of NAD Cell of Madurai Kamaraj University from APRIL 2019.

(P) DIRECT VERIFY :

To verify the Genuineness of Candidates Statement of Marks, Provisional Certificate and Degree Certificates we have agreement with Direct Verify from March 2014.

(Q) EXAMINATION SQUAD :

Senior members of the Examination Committee members visited the halls at random and check the nature of invigilation and arrangements made for conducting the End Semester Examinations November 2018.

(R) GRIEVANCE BOX :

On the basis of suggestion given by Internal Academic Audit Committee in April 2017, a Complaints / Grievance Box and format slip for any complaints / grievances about evaluation by the students has been put in front of the Office of the Controller of Examinations from April 2017 End Semester Examinations.

(S) VISIT BY OTHER COLLEGE COE  :

On 2-12-2020  Dr.B. Maheshkumar, Controller of Examinations, G.V.N. College, Kovilpatti along with his team visited our Office of the Controller of Examinations to gain knowledge about the operations of the Controller Office.
