  • Nanomaterials are materials possessing grain sizes on the order of billionth of a meter.Over the past decade, Nanomaterials have been the subject    of enormous interest. This materials notable for their    extremely small feature size , have the potential for wide-   ranging industrial, bio-medical and electronic applications. Nanomaterials can be metals,ceramics,polymeric materials    or composite materials.
  • Their defining characteristic is a very small feature size in   the range of 1 – 100 nm.

 

The unusual  properties of Nanoparticles are due to 3 main reasons.
1.The size of Nanoparticles is comparable to the Bohr radius of the excitons. This significantly alters the optical, luminescent & redox properties of Nanoparticles when compared to the bulk material.
2. The surface atoms constitute a considerable fraction of the total no.of atoms of the Nanoparticle.
3. The natural size of the Nanoparticle is comparable with the size of molecules. This determines the peculiarities of the kinetics of chemical processes on the surface of Nanoparticles.
